I hope this blog post reaches you at a time where the kids are out of your classroom and you are recharging from the insanity that was the 2022-2023 school year. If you are like me, you have been on break for a few days and while your physically away from the classroom, you can never truly turn off that teacher brain. I’ve been spending the last few days cleaning my house and attending a few yoga classes to keep my mind busy.
Courtney mentioned that she wanted to give teachers a way to have access to really awesome professional development but at a fraction of the cost of many World Language PD opportunities. I was in the same boat, I wanted to help as many teachers as I could establish core literacy practices in their classroom, host more PD, and make it affordable for everyone attending.
As full time classroom teachers, we know what it is like to feel like your time has been wasted in a professional development and you know you could have spent that time in a more meaningful way. We know what it feels like to sit in a professional development and hear all of these *great* classroom management tips from someone who hasn’t been in a classroom in over 10 years, let alone in a pandemic. We know what it feels like to go to a conference, get bombarded with information, and then have very little to apply to your classroom practice.
The end of the school year always causes me to do some major reflection on what went well during the year and what I already know I am going to do differently. One thing that went really well for me was collaborating more with my amiga, Courtney Jackson, over at Profe. Zulita. Courtney and I spent a lot of time discussing our experiences as Spanish teachers, the new book Common Ground, and our upcoming presentations at local professional development.
After months of brainstorming and pulling in our other amiga, Kathryn, PD for Profes was officially happening! The idea left the group chat and was finally coming to life!
PD for Profes is a quarterly or yearly subscription that gives you access to monthly training, power hours, and resources that you can use in your classroom the very next day! Can’t make the live presentation? Don’t worry! All of our sessions are recorded and you can view them at your own time. Didn’t make the power-hour? Look in our Facebook group for extra resources, tips, and suggestions for your classroom! PD For Profes works for you and with you to meet your professional development needs.
Topics to be covered in the near future are lesson planning, student engagement, and planning for multiple levels at a time. We are SO excited to launch this together and to support other teachers in post-pandemic teaching!
