Mid-year Classroom Reset
It’s time for a mid-year Classroom Reset! Every November, a familiar feeling creeps in. The initial spark of the school year starts to dim. The
Hey there, teachers! Whether you’re a beginner teacher or a seasoned pro, welcome to my blog series dedicated just for YOU! No matter your subject area, you’re in the right spot because these posts are for everyone.
Every year, I see beginner teachers wishing they knew the ropes: what questions to ask, how to tackle that first week of class, dealing with no curriculum or support, understanding teacher unions, making that nerve-wracking first parent call, handling angry parents at conferences, and dodging sketchy marketing schemes aimed at us teachers. And the list goes on.
Well, guess what? I’ve got your back. No sugar-coating here. I’ll straight-up tell you if something’s a waste of cash or if you’re being taken for a ride. I will walk you through the good, bad, and really ugly. I will be the person to can count on to hype you up, bring you back down to Earth, and a shoulder to cry on.
I wish someone had told me what to buy, what to skip, where to find good curriculum, decode contracts, and master the art of timing my words. So, here I am, filling in those gaps for you after almost a decade in the game.
Let me share a gem from my own career: beginner teacher, switching schools in year four, clueless on basic stuff like taking attendance in a new system or using the copy machine. It was like navigating a maze blindfolded – but hey, things have improved since then. Ever mistook your principal for tech support? Or asked your superintendent, in his gym gear, to fix your blinds, thinking he was a janitor? Yeah, been there, done that.
So, whether you’re a beginner teacher or a seasoned veteran, remember this: you’re not alone in the maze of education. With a little humor, some straight talk, and a supportive community, we can navigate the ups and downs of this profession together. Let’s embrace the chaos, learn from the mishaps, and continue to grow as educators. Be sure to share this space with your fellow colleagues so no one is left out!
